Plein Air Nature September 2021; watercolour and ink on paper. Paintings of apple trees.

These are the apple trees in our communal garden. The boughs are heavy with red and green fruit at this time of year. Scores of the apples drop and rot on the grass. Or are eaten by foxes. But – if you shake the trees – you can have your fill of apples. In theory.

While painting, neighbours sat on the bench near me drinking lager and listening to modern music. “Is that watercolour?” asked one. I like the neighbours.
